IZMIR DESIGN CORRIDORS COMPETITION

2014

A flexible activity-exhibition area for displaying different design products and performances along the Izmir Bay.

The water rising from the column in the middle of the floating platform to be built on the sea defines the space with the dome-shaped wall it forms as it flows towards the sea as thin as a membrane.

TEMPORARY HOUSING COMPETITION

A modular temporary living station that produces its own energy, purifies water, is environmentally friendly, can be easily installed and disassembled, to meet the emergency shelter needs after natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods or forced migration.

Concept:

The park consists of two levels. The trails at the upper level are for those in transit through the park. The children's playground is located at this level. At the lower level, there are paths that wind around the pond in the middle. The level difference between the two levels creates the appropriate volume for a cafeteria that cannot be perceived from outside the park. Cafe can serve in summer and winter. This place, which is buried in the ground, has only one façade, which overlooks the pond. There is a fountain in the middle of the circular square between the pond and the cafe, creating a gathering place around it. Together with the swans in the pond, it creates a focus. The swans' habitat is in the southeast corner of the pond and is isolated from humans by a curtain of bamboo plants. There is a circular viewing platform at the point dominating the pond. From this point, the whole of the park and swans swimming in the water can be perceived. As the water in the canal at the edge of the platform flows into the pond by sluice, it not only creates games of light but also radiates peace with its screech. The privet bush, which is used to define the park's surroundings, creates a texture that pleases the eye and a curtain that cuts the dust and noise coming from outside.

Concept:

Kuğulupark is located at a point where many values intersect. The most important streets of the city park surrounds. It is in the middle of the linear line that starts from the Presidential Palace and ends at the TBMM. In this sense, Kuğulupark can be seen as the conceptual center of Ankara, the center of Turkey. The park takes these two important institutions as a reference in its orientation. The park can be entered from 13 different points. Thus, the park becomes integrated with the district it is located in. There is no main entrance, all entries have the same weight. From the entrance to the park, the orientation is towards the swan pond in the middle of the park. From the indoor cafe on the upper level of the park, and the outdoor tea garden The park can be viewed from above. Swans and fountains floating in the water add visual richness to the park.
